Instagram Photo Downloader

Download publicly accessible Instagram photo posts by pasting the link into SaveThisIG. Preview and save the image.

What is the Photos downloader?

Instagram photo posts are single images shared publicly. At a high level, SaveThisIG reads the public post link, finds the publicly served image file for that post, and presents it to you for preview and download.

The saved file keeps the dimensions Instagram actually returns for that post, and those dimensions appear on the result card so you know exactly what you are getting rather than an advertised number. Private accounts and login walls are never used.

One post containing a single image is what this page is built for. If the post contains several images, or a mix of images and videos, that is a carousel and the carousel downloader returns every item separately so none of them is silently dropped.

If you are unsure whether you have a photo post or a carousel, the photos and carousels guide shows how to tell them apart from the link, and how each behaves once downloaded.

How it works

  1. Copy the Instagram link from your browser or the Instagram app.
  2. Paste the link into the downloader on this page.
  3. Preview the media that is returned.
  4. Download it to your device.

Supported URL

https://www.instagram.com/p/…

What is not supported

  • Photos from private accounts, and any post that only appears after logging in. These are never accessed and no credentials are ever requested.
  • Profile links and profile-picture downloads. Avatars, profile photos and profile grids are not extracted.
  • Multi-image or mixed-media posts, which are carousels. The carousel downloader exists specifically to return every item in order.
  • Videos, including videos inside a carousel. A video link belongs to the video downloader.
  • Stories, Highlights, Reels and Live replays — each has its own downloader because the link shapes and expiry rules are all different.
  • Deleted, hidden or archived posts, and anything sent privately by direct message.

What you can download

  • Publicly accessible single-image posts, linked as instagram.com/p/… or the legacy instagram.com/tv/… path.
  • Images in any aspect ratio — square, portrait, landscape or wide — because the file is delivered exactly as posted.
  • Links copied from the post's share sheet, the browser address bar, or a public embed on another site.
  • The original image file as Instagram currently serves it, rather than a compressed screenshot or a re-encoded copy.
  • One image per download: a single-image post produces a single file.

What you get after downloading

  • The image file Instagram currently serves for that post. We do not recompress, upscale, sharpen or otherwise alter it.
  • Pixel dimensions and file size follow the original upload and differ from post to post. There is no resolution selector, because only one real version exists.
  • The extension follows the image format Instagram returns, commonly JPEG. The filename is derived from the post so you can recognise it later.
  • If Instagram serves an image in a different format for a particular post, the downloaded file follows that format.
  • No watermark or caption is burned into the file, and nothing is posted back to Instagram afterwards.

Why a download can fail

The account is private, or the post requires a login.
SaveThisIG handles public content only, so this cannot be bypassed. Verify by opening the post in a signed-out private window: if it does not load, it is not public.
The post has more than one item.
That is a carousel. Use the carousel downloader, which returns each image and video in the group as its own file instead of choosing one.
The post was deleted or the creator hid it.
Once media is removed it is gone for everyone. Only the creator can supply a replacement.
The link is a profile address rather than a post address.
Copy the link from the individual post, not from the profile page. A /p/… link is required and a bare username will not work here.
Instagram is temporarily limiting requests.
Wait about a minute and try again. The limit is short and clears by itself.
The image link has expired, or Instagram was slow to respond.
Open the post again to get a fresh link and retry once. Most one-off errors succeed on the second attempt.

Troubleshooting

  • Open the post while signed out in a private window. That single check tells you whether the image is genuinely public.
  • Count the items in the post. More than one means carousel, and this page will not return a complete set from it.
  • Check the link shape: a single photo post is instagram.com/p/…, not a /reel/… or /stories/… address.
  • Retry once before doing anything else, since most failures reported here are momentary.
  • After several failures in a row, pause about a minute so the temporary request limit clears.
  • Confirm the post still exists in the app. Deleted posts cannot be downloaded by any tool.
  • On mobile, paste rather than type the link — autocorrect is a frequent cause of addresses that look correct but do not resolve.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download an Instagram photo?

Copy the link of the public photo post, paste it into the downloader on this page, preview the image, and press Download. The post must be publicly accessible.

What image quality is available?

The image is saved at the resolution Instagram currently returns for that post. The actual dimensions are displayed on the result card, so there is no separate quality to choose.

Can I download photos on mobile?

Yes. The downloader is mobile-first and works from phones and tablets with the same paste and download flow.

How do I save every photo in a multi-image post?

Use the carousel downloader. It lists each image and video in the post in its original order, with a separate download button for every item.

Can I download someone's profile picture?

No. Profile-picture and avatar downloads are outside what this tool supports — the link needs to point at a post, not at an account.

Will the downloaded photo be blurry or compressed?

You receive the file Instagram serves for that post, not a re-encoded version, so the quality is the original's. Very large images can look soft in preview simply because they are being scaled down for display.

Can I download a photo from a private account?

No. Private-account content is deliberately unsupported, and we do not ask for a login or attempt to bypass the restriction.

Why did my link stop working after a few days?

Image links expire and posts can be deleted. Copy a fresh link from the post; if the post itself is gone, the image cannot be retrieved.

Do I need an app or account to use this?

No. The downloader runs entirely in your browser on this page. Nothing is installed and no account is created.
