Instagram Reels Downloader

Download publicly accessible Instagram Reels by pasting a Reel link into SaveThisIG. Preview the video and save it.

What is the Reels downloader?

Instagram Reels are short vertical videos that creators publish directly in the Reels tab, in the feed, and on their profile grid. A Reel always has its own link of the form instagram.com/reel/… — that address is the one this tool is built for.

SaveThisIG downloads a Reel when the video is publicly accessible and Instagram still serves it at the moment you paste the link. Paste the Reel link into the downloader below, check the preview, then save the file. There is no sign-up step and Instagram never asks you for a password.

Reels are not the same thing as feed videos. A video posted to a profile as a regular post lives at instagram.com/p/… and keeps whatever orientation the creator chose, while a Reel is the vertical, short-form format. If your link starts with /p/, this is still the right tool for it in most cases, but the dedicated video downloader is built for those links.

New to downloading from Instagram? Our step-by-step Reels guide explains how to find the right link for a Reel, and what Instagram content can actually be downloaded sets out the public-content rules this page relies on.

How it works

  1. Copy the Instagram link from your browser or the Instagram app.
  2. Paste the link into the downloader on this page.
  3. Preview the media that is returned.
  4. Download it to your device.

Supported URL

https://www.instagram.com/reel/…

What is not supported

  • Reels from private accounts, and any content that only appears after you log in. These are never accessed and no credentials are ever requested.
  • Profile links and profile-picture downloads. A profile address is not a Reel link, and we do not extract profile photos, avatars or profile grids.
  • A whole profile's Reel grid. Open the individual Reel and use that link instead.
  • Instagram Live that is currently on air. This tool is for Reels; a finished Live recording belongs in the Live Replay downloader.
  • Reels the creator has deleted, archived or made unavailable. Once the media is gone, there is nothing left to retrieve.
  • Close Friends stories, direct messages, or anything sent to you privately — those are not public content and are never processed.

What you can download

  • Publicly accessible Reels shared as individual links of the form instagram.com/reel/… (the older instagram.com/reels/… shape is recognized too).
  • Links copied from the Reel share sheet, the browser address bar, or a public embed on another site.
  • Reels on accounts that anyone can open without signing in, including public accounts and accounts set to open for everyone.
  • The video file exactly as Instagram currently serves it — we return what exists rather than rebuilding it.
  • One Reel per download: a single Reel link produces a single video file, never a bundle.

What you get after downloading

  • You get the video file Instagram serves for that specific Reel at the time of the request. We never re-encode, upscale or invent a resolution.
  • Resolution, file size and duration differ from Reel to Reel, and depend on the original upload. There is no single quality setting to choose, and no quality guarantee beyond what the source actually provides.
  • The file extension follows the container Instagram uses, which is normally MP4 for Reels. The filename is derived from the post so you can recognise it later.
  • A Reel served in a different container produces a file in that container — the output always follows the source.
  • Downloading gives you a copy of the file. It does not repost to Instagram, add a watermark, or alter the audio.

Why a download can fail

The account is private, or the Reel needs a login to view.
SaveThisIG only reads public content, so this cannot be worked around. Check the account yourself in a signed-out browser window: if you cannot see the Reel without logging in, nobody can download it.
The creator deleted or archived the Reel.
Removed media no longer exists for anyone, including the person who saved it. Ask the creator to send you a copy directly.
The link is wrong, truncated, or not an Instagram link.
Copy the link again with the Reel's own copy-link button. It must start with http or https and the address must be on instagram.com.
Instagram is temporarily limiting how often this media can be requested.
Wait about a minute and try again. This is a short, temporary pause rather than a block.
The media link has expired.
Open the Reel in Instagram again to get a fresh link, then paste it in. Stale links collected earlier can expire.
Instagram took too long to respond, or the download service was briefly unavailable.
Try the same link a second time. Most of these clear on a retry within a few seconds.

Troubleshooting

  • Open the link yourself in a private browser window while signed out. If the Reel does not load there, we cannot retrieve it either — that check rules out most problems in one step.
  • Check the shape of the address. A Reel link looks like instagram.com/reel/…, a feed video looks like instagram.com/p/…, and a profile looks like instagram.com/yourname. A profile link pasted here will not work, because we do not download profiles.
  • Retry once before assuming something is broken. A meaningful share of failures are transient and succeed on the next attempt.
  • If several downloads in a row fail, pause for about a minute so the temporary request limit clears.
  • Confirm the Reel still exists in the Instagram app. If it is gone there too, it cannot be downloaded anywhere.
  • On a phone, use the copy-link option rather than typing the address by hand — autocorrect and missing characters are the usual cause of links that look right but fail.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download an Instagram Reel?

Copy the link of the public Reel you want, paste it into the downloader on this page, and follow the preview and Download steps. The Reel must be publicly accessible for it to be retrieved.

Can I download Instagram Reels on mobile?

Yes. The downloader works on phones and tablets, and the paste and download actions are one-handed and optimized for small screens.

Do I need an Instagram password?

No. SaveThisIG never asks for, stores, or uses Instagram credentials. Only publicly accessible content is processed.

Why isn't a Reel downloading?

The most common reasons are a private account, the Reel being removed, an invalid link, or Instagram temporarily limiting requests. SaveThisIG reports a clear error for each situation instead of failing silently.

What resolution will I get?

Whichever version Instagram currently serves for that Reel. Reels vary widely in quality depending on the original upload, so there is no fixed resolution and nothing to select — we report the real file rather than a promised one.

Can I download a Reel from a private account?

No, and there is no version of this tool that can. Private-account content is deliberately out of scope: we neither bypass the restriction nor ask you for a login.

Can this tool download a Reel that stitches audio from another Reel?

You get the file the Reel currently serves, which is the combined video Instagram plays. We do not edit, remix or re-render audio, and we cannot rebuild a Reel from its separate source clips.

Does this also work for videos posted in my feed?

Feed video posts live at instagram.com/p/… rather than /reel/…. They are a different format, and the video downloader is designed around those links.

Why did an older link stop working?

Media links can expire after a while, and creators sometimes remove old posts. Copy a fresh link from the Reel; if it has been deleted, no tool can retrieve it.

Do I have to install anything?

No. Everything runs in your browser on this page. There is no app, extension or account to create.
